Paid internship for a Level 3 student at Brandon Trust

Brandon Trust is a charity providing care and support for people with learning disabilities and autism. We operate across the South of England, the Midlands and London with the aim of enabling people with learning disabilities to ‘live free’ and live the lives they wish. We provide high quality services, with over 90% being rated as either ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ by the care regulator, the Care Quality Commission. However, Like many organisations in our sector, we are currently operating in a very challenging environment. This has mainly been brought about by the crisis in social care funding which you are likely to have heard about in the news.

The Transformation Programme

To ensure that we weather the storm of this crisis, we have just established a major transformation project which will use innovation and design to improve care and support to our customers, the experience of staff and the financial sustainability of the organisation. The programme will be user-led and ‘people-centred and will deliver tangible improvements to the way that we work. Staff from throughout the organisation will be involved in taking forward all projects that are part of the programme. However, the overall aim is to encourage staff to innovate and design solutions to their everyday problems and barriers. Generating a new culture of innovation, improvement and design is a key objective of the transformation programme.

Why we’re looking for a design intern

Ensuring staff are engaged with the programme will be key to its success. We have a very diverse staff population and need to package up information and updates on the programme in a visual way that is easy for everyone to understand. We also want communications to reflect the culture that we are working to achieve and bring energy to the programme. For this reason, we are seeking a design intern who will help us achieve this, bringing fresh thinking and helping us make information easy to digest and understand.

What we can offer you

In return we can offer a fresh, bright brand with flexibility of use. We’re not constrained by high levels of corporate guidelines and this would be an opportunity to begin to shape an internal brand that reflects the culture that we’d like to adopt. We have an experienced communications and marketing team who will provide input and guidance, and give you some great experience of working in the third sector. We’d like to hope that the work you do for us would be a strong portfolio piece, demonstrating to future employers that you have been at the centre of a major change management and employee engagement programme.
