Spike Open Studio Volunteers 2019

We are looking for volunteers to help at various times across the weekend, helping us to inspire and assist visitors as they explore this extensive building.

Explore the working environments of hundreds of artists, designers and creative businesses at Spike Island. This family friendly weekend includes events, demonstrations, art work for sale, and street food by some of Bristol’s best traders.

Open Studios runs from Friday 3 May, 6–9pm (followed by after party until late); Saturday 4 May, 11am–5pm; Sunday 5 May, 11am–5pm; to Monday 6 May, 11am–5pm.

Volunteers must attend an induction session on Thursday 2 May at 2.30–3.30pm.

Journalism Fellowship

 Visual Journalism internship (8 weeks paid in the summer).
The interactives team work with data and design to communicate the news. Our fellow will work towards creating innovative and engaging visual journalism in collaboration with the Guardian’s Visuals team and the wider newsroom. In the Visuals team we identify, conceptualise, design and build first-class interactive stories and graphics that break new ground in journalism. We collaborate with journalists from other desks and also conduct original reporting. You could find yourself working with several different visual formats during your time with us, from data visualisation to photography and animation.

Our ideal candidate will have some skills in interactive development, be passionate about technology and interested in creating the future of news.

Join our Young Exhibition Producers from Rising Arts Agency and Creative Youth Network as they discuss how they put together their Leonardo Unfinished exhibition to go alongside Leonardo da Vinci: A Life in Drawing. Hear their highs and lows, and what it was like to respond to works by such an iconic artist.

After the talk, join us for the a look at the exhibition, and the Arty Party: presented by Solomon OB – award winning Spoken Word Artist for drinks, performances by emerging artists, DJs & some arty interventions.

Also network & find out about arts opportunities with local arts organisations Rising Arts Agency, Creative Youth Network and Paper Arts.

This is a free event for 16-25 year olds as part of our young people’s engagement programme. Booking is required. There will be a bar and everyone purchasing alcohol will be asked for ID.

An Emerging Artist Exhibition

An evening of exciting new work, organised and produced by PENULTIMATE, a theatre company based in Bristol, proudly supported by the Creative Youth Network.

We are looking for Bristol’s artists from multiple practices, be it; visual art, photography, dance, installation to come together under one roof for a night celebrating the arts.

 

A chance to sell! If you want to sell the work you exhibit, or alongside prints, postcards, zines, anything! We won’t be taking a cut, it’s all yours.

KWMC is looking for you…

Knowle West Media Centre (KWMC) currently has three opportunities to work on a project exploring the hidden heritage of Bristol’s Knowle West estate.

“100 Years of Knowle West Style” focuses on uncovering, exploring, understanding and telling the story of the area’s hidden heritage through a mix of participative research, making, and site-specific events.

KWMC is seeking an artist, arts producer, and archivist.

The project is part of “Homes for Heroes 100” – a collaborative programme of projects, events, publications and other activities across Bristol to mark the centenary of the 1919 Housing and Town Planning Act (known as The Addison Act after the then Minister of Health and Housing Christopher Addison) which led to the building of large-scale council house estates in this country.

KWMC is looking to employ an Arts Producer to support the design, development and delivery of the “100 Years of Knowle West Style’’ project.

Fixed term contract: 2 days per week from start of April – end of November 2019
Salary: Grade 3 – £22,151 – £25,843 (equates to £8,980 – £10,477)

Archivist

KWMC is seeking an archivist to sort, collate and prepare the broad archive that exists in Knowle West and identify other relevant local archival material.

Commission dates: Mid-March to Mid-May
Fee: £2000 all inclusive

Artist

KWMC is seeking artists, working in any medium, who are interested in participatory arts practice and the culture and architecture of council-built estates and the experiences of people who live there.

Commission dates: May to October 2019, with a public event to happen in mid-October
Fee: up to £8,000, inclusive of VAT. There is additional budget for materials and events.
Deadline: Monday 18 March 2019
