Getting Into The Creative Industry: VICE, BBC, Channel 4
The Universityย ofย Bristol’s Student Union is hosting a panel discussion on the 14th of March (6-8pm) on how to get into the Creative Industry which is open to all students and the public.
The discussion will showcase the expertise of industry professionals working for the BBC,
Channel 4, VICE & Elle Magazine. They will be talking about their experiences as black creatives and they will be sharing their advice, perspectives and insights. The panel discussion will be followed by a networking reception with FREE pizza, drinks and refreshments.

Michael is a director and producer of film and TV who is currently a partner on the Random Acts Channel 4 strand with Calling the Shots. Michael runs his own production company, 8th Sense Media, which delivers video content for a variety of clients including the BBC. Michael recently won Best Short film for โCheck the Labelโ at The Royal Television Society Awards 2018 and two BBC Local Radio Gillard Awards.

Chantรฉ is a University of Bristol graduate in Social Policy with Quantitative Research Methods. She has interned at Google and founded Bristol is The New Black and the BME Powerlist. She writes for platforms including The Guardian, The I Paper, Noisey, VICE, Munchies, Gal-dem, and Crack Magazine. Chantรฉ has worked at eBay, ELLE UK, and VICE and is regularly interviewed on BBC Radio and BBC News about her activism. She currently edits The Uni Bubble and will be the Digital Media Officer at parliament in February.

Deanna is a leading proponent of the UK performance poetry scene. Deanna teaches Writing for Performance with Benjamin Zephaniah at Brunel University and has recently received the Kevin Elyot award by the University of Bristolโs Theatre Collection. She co-curates two leading spoken word events: Chill Pill and Come Rhyme With Me and is on the board of Safe Ground. Deannaโs commissions include: SPOTY 2018 – Dina Asher Smith (BBC Sports), Under The Skin (St Paulโs Cathedral), Now We Are Here (Young Vic), and Women Who Spit (BBC IPlayer).

A north London based rapper and occasional producer, M.I.C (shorthand for the Master of Inane Conversation) is pioneering his own brand of “alternative grime music”, a sound best exemplified with his most recent release; the acclaimed mini album, “Heaven is Black”. An activist in his own right, his music explores everything from identity to the treatment of LGBTQ+ communities and Eurocentrism. M.I.C has recently been listed as one of NMEโs 100 new essential artists to watch for 2019.
