Getting Into The Creative Industry: VICE, BBC, Channel 4

The Universityย ofย Bristol’s Student Union is hosting a panel discussion on the 14th of March (6-8pm) on how to get into the Creative Industry which is open to all students and the public.

The discussion will showcase the expertise of industry professionals working for the BBC,

Channel 4, VICE & Elle Magazine. They will be talking about their experiences as black creatives and they will be sharing their advice, perspectives and insights. The panel discussion will be followed by a networking reception with FREE pizza, drinks and refreshments.

Michael is a director and producer of film and TV who is currently a partner on the Random Acts Channel 4 strand with Calling the Shots. Michael runs his own production company, 8th Sense Media, which delivers video content for a variety of clients including the BBC. Michael recently won Best Short film for โ€˜Check the Labelโ€™ at The Royal Television Society Awards 2018 and two BBC Local Radio Gillard Awards.

Chantรฉ is a University of Bristol graduate in Social Policy with Quantitative Research Methods. She has interned at Google and founded Bristol is The New Black and the BME Powerlist. She writes for platforms including The Guardian, The I Paper, Noisey, VICE, Munchies, Gal-dem, and Crack Magazine. Chantรฉ has worked at eBay, ELLE UK, and VICE and is regularly interviewed on BBC Radio and BBC News about her activism. She currently edits The Uni Bubble and will be the Digital Media Officer at parliament in February.

Deanna is a leading proponent of the UK performance poetry scene. Deanna teaches Writing for Performance with Benjamin Zephaniah at Brunel University and has recently received the Kevin Elyot award by the University of Bristolโ€™s Theatre Collection. She co-curates two leading spoken word events: Chill Pill and Come Rhyme With Me and is on the board of Safe Ground. A north London based rapper and occasional producer, M.I.C (shorthand for the Master of Inane Conversation) is pioneering his own brand of “alternative grime music”, a sound best exemplified with his most recent release; the acclaimed mini album, “Heaven is Black”. I-AM GRADUATE COMPETITION

Always keen to find new talent, we run an annual internship competition: looking for two superb graduates to spend a year working with our design team in London. We visit universities across the UK, spreading the agency gospel to future designers and introducing them to the competition. With excellent feedback from students and lecturers and lots of interest on social media, the competition always attracts plenty of strong applicants.

Open Call for Young Graphic Designer

Post 16 Participation are looking for a young graphic designer aged 16 โ€“ 25 years old, to design a new logo for their service. The logo will be used throughout their marketing and promotional material including social media, online, print, presentations and branded templates, i.e. letter headed paper.

The target audience for the clients marketing is: Schools, Young People, Youth Services Professionals and Parents / Carers.

The client is asking for designs that are:

  • Recognisable with the ability to clearly identify the programme
  • Bright
  • Have a non-commercial feel to them, yet be professional
  • Inspiring
  • Clear and bold
  • Use the words โ€˜Post 16 Participationโ€™
  • Have an element of red in the design to link it to Bristol City Council

This is a paid opportunity worthย ยฃ250 – ยฃ300 for the successful applicant.

BABE 2019

Itโ€™s back! The seventh biennial festival of artist book making, featuring the work of bookmakers and small presses from around the world. Since 2007, BABE has established a great reputation as a relaxed and friendly event to meet and talk to book artists about their work and buy works of art. With more than 80 makers taking part, and prices starting from just a few pounds, there will be something for everyone.

Expect performances, interventions, talks and workshops across the weekend too.

Featuring artists from all over the UK, Ireland, Germany, Norway, Sweden and South Korea.

BABE 2019 is presented by Arnolfini, with Sarah Bodman (Centre for Fine Print Research, University of the West of England) and Tom Sowden (Bath School of Art and Design, Bath Spa University).
