The Rules
Your entry must be up to 90 seconds long.
You can use any digital device – computer, phone or camera.
We welcome projects produced by a team, though the lead creatives – director, producer, writer or composer must be under 30 years old, or a student.

It must be suitable for all audiences, with no “explicit content” requiring a disclaimer.
The competition will open on 25 September and close on 30 November, with results announced in December.
Call for pitches: Help us rethink the internet
If we could pull the plug and redesign the internet from scratch, what would we change and what would we keep?
What kind of internet might we be heading towards (seeking both notes of caution, as well as constructive ideas for how we might mend some of the internet’s emerging ills), and what lessons can we learn from its past? What alternatives for the internet can we imagine?
We are very keen to include a variety of different kinds of outputs in this collection: essays, videos and animations, long form journalism and reporting, short stories, poems, illustrations, comics, animations… We are very open to suggestions, as long as pitches engage with the stated topic in a creative and compelling way. The total set of contributions will be turned into an interactive website, to be released in February 2019. Please note that we will also produce a hardcopy book version of the collection, though the main output will be digital.
If you are interested in being part of this project, send us a pitch, including a short description (maximum 200 words) of the kind of contribution you had in mind and a selection of your work by October 26th. All materials should be sent to ngi_opencall18@nesta.org.uk. We will review all entries in the weeks after, and will be in touch with shortlisted applicants by early November.
The 2018-19 Student Art Pass will offer all university students in the UK a specially discounted £5 version of the Art Fund’s National Art Pass. Holders of the pass will have access to the ‘Artful Opportunities’ initiative, which is aimed at offering 500 paid work opportunities in museums and galleries across the UK.
Previous placements have included working as guides at cultural events and festivals such as Art Night, working as ambassadors for Art Fund on university campuses and at cultural venues, and also art writing commissions and competitions.
All work opportunities for students will be paid at a minimum of the living wage.
Motel Win-Win
Ottonie and Asja are currently working on a project, called Motel win-win, questioning how cities would change if short-term visitors would not only bring financial profit but also their skills in any shape to help forming a new identity of places.
For the Dutch Design Week this year they are opening a one-room hotel at TAC. Interested guests are asked to conduct an exciting activity on the day after their stay in return for a free accommodation.
Probably you are for now not planning to visit the Dutch Design Week or maybe you are? And still looking for a place to stay? If not, we would be happy if you could share the open call with people who might be interested!
Strangers As Collaborators
Lunchtime Talks at the Pervasive Media Studio
Lunchtime Talks are a series of informal presentations at Watershed’s Pervasive Media Studio. They normally take place at 13:00 on a Friday, are free and are open to everybody who is interested in what they do. Come along, bring a sandwich, and get to know more about the Studio community, current and up-coming projects, or residents’ work.
Glen Walton is a multidisciplinary artist currently visiting the studio from Melbourne, Australia. He creates interactive installations that invite the public to become musical collaborators. Glen comes from a more traditional theatre, comedy and music background so it has been a strange and winding path that has led him to his current exploration of experimental digital instruments and collective musical play.
In this talk he will discuss, play in public spaces and the development of work that embraces the spirit of DIY. Glen will also discuss findings from his recent Masters thesis which identifies ways to encourage the journey from ‘observer’ to ‘participant’ within public installations. Oh, and there will be some hands-on demos as well!
The Pervasive Media Studio is located within the Watershed building. Let us know if you’d like a tour and we’ll be happy to show you around. Send an email to studio@watershed.co.uk.

Typenowhere documents work created on the BA(Hons) Graphic Design course at The University of the West of England, at Arnolfini contemporary art gallery in Bristol. The site also acts as a student resource including current live opportunities. Located inside the Arnolfini contemporary art gallery in Bristol city centre and taught by practising graphic designers, learning takes place in a studio environment with exceptional department facilities and a real-world dynamic. The course ranks very highly in the National Student Survey (NSS). Current students are regularly shortlisted for national and international graphic design awards. The course provides excellent preparation for a creative career in the UK and abroad. Many of our graduates establish their own freelance businesses or independent design companies.
