How to Reday

Knowledge traditionally orally passed down through generations is at risk of being forgotten. This is especially true for individuals living in a diaspora. The distance from elders means we are more likely to lose these traditions and knowledge. This project aims to preserve this knowledge in relation to my own culture to embrace who we are and not lose a part of ourselves. A specially printed Libyan traditional wrap dress, that tells a story of my own memories and connection to the Nafusa Mountains, leads to the knowledge of how to wrap it in the form of a video.

Tifinagh Revived

A typeface that revives the dying Amazigh alphabet called tifinagh. The survival of a language or alphabet depends on us, the younger generations, to remember and carry them on. By fusing english letters and their tifinagh symbol equivalent this font creates a space for this dying alphabet to have a new life. The design of the letters focuses on making the two seperate letters one and, as a result, creates an illusion. The font is collected in a type specimen book which clearly shows each letters shape. The font used on posters shows it in use.

New Norm Protest

A protest sign series encouraging our new norm. Physical human connections are usually an everyday luxury. Due to Covid-19 the interactions we once had must now be warned away. ‘No free hugs’ is a play on the famous social campaign ‘free hugs’ – while the supporting statements are ones we must abide by in a changed world with new norms.

Project Seven

Project seven looks at balance through the stacking and placing of seven chairs. Originally designed for 3D print, the project has evolved to look at ways of working using different types of medias and softwares, such as cinema 4D, embossing and modelling. Using 4D softwares to illustrate the 3D print process, and video to depict hand crafted chairs being stacked depicts how these would appear in an exhibition environment.

Camaraderie

“Does camaraderie even exist in the first place?”

The story about a camaraderie: a society in disguise. Each one to lean and rely on each other, only to find themselves to be broken for opportunities by any means possible. Whether you survive or not- its entirely up to you.
