Open Call for our Winter Residencies Programme
Supporting creative practitioners to have freedom and resources to develop ideas is an incredibly important part of our work at Watershed, so we are truly delighted to announce an open call for this year’s funded residencies…
About the programme
Our Winter Residencies programme is a fantastic opportunity to develop and share ideas, to meet incredible people, to make, experiment and think. It is open to creative practitioners of any discipline, career stage and background, who have ideas for projects that blend art and technology.
We have three residencies available. Each comes with a structured programme, work space at the Pervasive Media Studio, a network of peers, plus financial, technical and critical support. The programme will take place in Winter 2018/19 and we’re flexible about how you structure your time. This is a remarkable opportunity to have time, space and freedom to get an idea off the ground.
We’re looking to bring in a junior designer on an ad-hoc basis to help manage some of our workload. This will primarily consist of things like delivering iconography, graphics, digital illustrations and logos that we can then incorporate into our client’s projects. Any additional skills like coding, motion graphics, etc. are very beneficial and will result in more work being passed over.
A bit about us –
We’re a small, agile team (primarily working between Bristol and London) that mainly works with early to mid-stage startups (usually around 5 projects at a time). Due to this, it’s really important that the person we bring on board is very responsive and can deliver high-quality work to tight deadlines (it can be a pretty fast-paced environment).
A few quick examples of some of our recent and current projects (to get a flavor for the type of work):
1) A mindfullness/wellness app founded by a Milan-based fashionista who’s worked with some of the biggest names in the fashion industry and was in Time’s top-20 list for the fashion industry multiple times across her career.
2) An educational app that’s going to be used by one of the largest financial consultant companies in London.
3) Branding + website design & development for a London-based product design studio who work with companies like Google, Nike, and Samsung.
I hope that’s enough to go with! If any of your students are interested, could they please link their portfolio, or some recent work examples (Instagram, Flickr, etc. is all good) to firstname.lastname@example.org

Search For New – Publication Launch Friday 18th May
You will be connected with the people around you, they will make you feel warm inside.
This is wasting time talking to people you don’t care about, on communication that you never use, with no purpose
This is diluting your earnings into pretending to contact with your friends.
This is using technology to undermine your self confidence.
This is sitting alone in a dark room with nobody to talk to, and those who you wanted to talk to ignoring you.
You will come to the launch of Search for New, and help us find a new way to examine the murky consumerist society we live in. This is for the UWE Graphic Design launch and takes place at the 5pm on the 18th May 2018 at Unit 5, The Arcade, Broadmead

Typenowhere documents work created on the BA(Hons) Graphic Design course at The University of the West of England, at Arnolfini contemporary art gallery in Bristol. The site also acts as a student resource including current live opportunities. Located inside the Arnolfini contemporary art gallery in Bristol city centre and taught by practising graphic designers, learning takes place in a studio environment with exceptional department facilities and a real-world dynamic. The course ranks very highly in the National Student Survey (NSS). Current students are regularly shortlisted for national and international graphic design awards. The course provides excellent preparation for a creative career in the UK and abroad. Many of our graduates establish their own freelance businesses or independent design companies.
