UWE Graphic Design Graduate Jasmine Lasode was one of the Nike On Air programme winners.
On Air was a design workshop series in Paris, London, New York, Seoul, Shanghai and Tokyo that engages participants in the Nike footwear design processes.
The program grants participants an opportunity to create the ultimate articulation of one of 10 Air Max icons for their city through creative sessions that will encompass the briefing, concept building and mood boarding stages of design. Participants were asked to envision a new Air Max for their respective city, taking inspiration from what it means to them and their experiences in it.
Jasmine’s design was selected as a a city finalist and attended the finalists workshop at Nike WHQ, Portland, USA last year. Her design of Nike Air Max 97 titled ‘London – Summer of Love’ – was inspired by a first date in Primrose Hill, London.
The city winner’s designs were then put to a global vote on nike.com/onair. The most-voted design per city will go into production and will be made available in spring 2019. Jasmine’s design was selected to represent London.
The sample has just landed on Jasmine’s feet – you can see her wearing it here!
100 years after the first steps were taken towards voting rights for Women in the UK, Bristol Women’s Voice and Sing With Soul celebrate Bristol’s Women of Colour, through a line up of performance, talks and panel discussions.
The event will unearth the stories of incredible women of colour who fought for equality and the right to vote, shining a light on those whose contribution has too often gone overlooked.
Our very own Programme Support Assistant and UWE Alumni Stacey Olika will be amongst the speakers of this day.
In the words of Sandra Gordon, Bristol Women’s Voice event organiser: ‘So many Black Women have led the way fighting inequality and injustice throughout their lives, without the acknowledgement and recognition of their invaluable contribution. I am proud to be working on a project that ensures that history is told, remembered and celebrated by all within our diverse city.’
