Disarming Design | Master’s programme at the Sandberg Instituut

At the Sandberg Instituut a new masters program is starting for which I thought you might be interested; Disarming Design is a two-year Master’s programme  committed to design practices in situations of oppression — starting september 2020 and existing only once for two years.

The course moves between design, politics, crafts, community, pedagogy and poetry and aims to define what is needed to enhance the social, political and emancipatory impact of design. We are looking for Designers of all sorts who are interested in counteracting oppression through the act of design, and are open for collaborative practices and interested in new platforms for design learning.

The official deadline was April 1st, however if you get in touch they are potentially accepting applications up to the 15th of April.

United Nations Global Call Out To Creatives | Help stop the spread of COVID-19

You have the power to change the world. The UN needs your help to stop the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

We are living in unprecedented times. The World Health Organization (WHO) is leading and coordinating the global health response to coronavirus, helping to ensure all countries are ready to prevent, detect and respond to the pandemic. To be effective we need people everywhere to adopt public health precautions, act in solidarity, and prevent the spread of misinformation.

The United Nations (UN) needs your help in translating critical public health messages, into work that will engage and inform people across different cultures, languages, communities and platforms. The shortlisted work will reach everyone, everywhere.

We need your submissions from day 1. The UN will continually review the submissions, and shortlist the most suitable work to become visible on a microsite, and accessible to everyone – supporting media, brands, influencers etc – around the world, who can download and use the work across their platforms in support of this cause.

It is not too late. No one can do everything, but everyone can do something. Together, we can save lives, protect resources and care for each other.

Win £2000 for designing A-N’s 40th Anniversary Logo!

Who can apply: Current a-n Artist, Joint (Artist and Arts Organiser) and Student members
What: a-n 40th Anniversary Logo Call Out
Deadline: 12 noon, Monday 23 March 2020

a-n The Artists Information Company is turning 40 this autumn. We will be celebrating our anniversary from September 2020, the month that the first Artists Newsletter was published in 1980.

We want to create a logo to be used throughout the 40th Anniversary year across all of our communications including our website, print, promotional material and social media.

We are looking for expressions of interest from our members to develop a logo which celebrates a-n and our work.

Five artists will receive £500 to develop final designs and to make a short presentation to a small panel on Wednesday 13 May in London.

The final selected artist will be awarded £2,000.

We are keen to see imaginative, ambitious and innovative ideas.

Supporting Artists for 40 Years

a-n has grown from a grass-roots 500-copy-a-month newsletter to a full professional membership organisation focusing on members’ needs. We are now the largest artists’ membership organisation in the UK with over 25,000 members. We run an annual programme supporting artists’ professional development. We advocate on behalf of our members and the arts sector to improve artists’ livelihoods.

In the past 40 years we have played a crucial role in supporting artists and we are marking this with a year-long celebration from September 2020. We have delved into our rich archive interviewing 40 Artists that have been significant shaping a-n and visual arts in the UK. We are looking forward by developing an Artists’ Manifesto that reflects the concerns of artists today and commissioning 40 Actions by artists to signal future change.
